Based in the industrious city of Hamilton, Hemi Metals is a trusted name in New Zealand’s manufacturing landscape. We are proud to produce and supply high-performance aluminium forgings, with a special focus on the robust Aluminium 5082 alloy. Our expertise lies in transforming this exceptional material into strong, reliable components that are perfectly suited for the demanding conditions faced by local and international industries. We combine advanced forging techniques with a deep understanding of our clients’ needs to deliver parts that offer both superior strength and lasting durability.
Aluminium 5082 is primarily an alloy of aluminium and magnesium, which gives it a very specific set of characteristics. The presence of magnesium is key to its strength, allowing it to achieve impressive mechanical properties, particularly after the forging process. This results in a component that offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Crucially, it maintains this strength without sacrificing its notable resistance to corrosion, making it a dependable choice for components exposed to harsh environments, especially those involving saltwater.

Aluminum 5082 offers high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, and enhanced fatigue resistance, making it ideal for custom forgings in marine, aerospace, and structural applications.
The forging process for Aluminium 5082 typically takes between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the complexity of the part, size, and the specific forging method used.
Aluminum 5082's workability, characterized by good machinability and medium strength, allows for easy shaping during forging. However, its relatively low work hardening rate may require careful temperature control.
The unique strength and corrosion resistance of Aluminium 5082 Forgings make them an excellent choice for challenging applications. A primary use is within the marine industry for essential parts like ship fittings, deck components, and other hardware that must withstand constant exposure to seawater. Beyond the docks, this alloy is also valued in the transportation sector for sturdy chassis parts and in various industrial settings for robust machinery components that require a reliable combination of lightness, strength, and durability to perform consistently under pressure.
